Our Story
With humble beginnings in Adelaide, South Australia, Shikku was conceived in 2022 with the vision of creating elegant premium leather handbags for women in an environmentally responsible and ethical manner.
Founded by Abhishek, the idea was inspired by his deep ties back home in India where he had been exposed to the rich cultural heritage of textile craftsmanship and artisan design. Through his longstanding personal connections with local manufacturers, he became educated on the process of upcycling as a way to reduce the wastage fashion can create from overproduction. Motivated by his lifelong love of luxury leather goods and respect for the environment, he embraced the challenge of creating responsibly, starting with upcycling.
A partnership was born in 2024 through a chance meeting with Sharon from which they connected through a shared passion for the finer things and a creative flare for problem solving. Sharon came on board to augment the brand with her business background and eye for design, underpinned by an environmentally conscious mindset.
Today, Shikku’s story is not only about creating handbags. We know that sustainability is inherently flawed in the world of fashion, but we can choose to minimise our environmental impact one responsible decision at a time.
